Phone swap movie review: Kunle Afolayan is back!

In 2010, we all saw what happened when Kunle Afolayan released the figurine movie. Many people hailed the work of the actor/writer/ producer who comes from a background of dedicated and creative filmmaker family. Apart from the presence of Ramsey Noah and other quality actors and performers, the movie was widely credited for its production quality and intricate detailing, which is usually lacking in most of Nigerian films. The result - several aama awards.
Now Kunle Afolayan is back again with another film that is the rave of the moment right now - phone swap. Phone swap is a comedy about Akin and Mary, two different people who met at the airport and mistakenly exchange their identical phones. By the time they will realize their mistake, they were already far apart. Trouble is, the two of them don’t actually have any ideas about their destination, and they rely on information through text messages to get to their destinations, which eventually resulted in a total mix-up. Akin, played by the UK based actor wale Ojo was supposed to attend his company’s official meeting, while Mary, played by the talented Nse Ikpe-Etim supposed to attend a family meeting. As expected, the mix-up resulted in hilarious consequences.
Other actors that took part in the movie include the incredible Joke Silva Jacobs, and Chika Okpala popularly known as Zebrudia. Chika was the main character in the hit TV series the new masquerade, which was popular in the 80’s. The big question here is will phone swap be able to make the kind of success figurine made? Many people are already giving positive response and credibility to the movie weeks before it is released, and this has made many believe that the sky is the limit for this new piece of artwork. The idea of a comedy in this period is a great thing. This is the time people need something that will make them laugh and happy, so they can forget their sorrow for some time while immersing themselves in the virtual world created by Kunle Afolayan.
